The primary function of the Snyder County Assessment Office is the discovery and valuation of the property for over 19,621 parcels for ad valorem tax purposes. This includes the maintenance of all real estate and personal records, updating, revisions, analyzing deeds, transferring of ownership, mapping, reviewing existing construction, corresponding and maintaining Homestead/Farmstead files and processing applications. The office is also required to prepare a list of residents over the age of 18 for per capita tax. They also maintain and collect census data for Midd-West School District and Selinsgrove Area School District.
Snyder County is a 7th class County and the Assessment Office is administered under the Consolidated County Assessment Law. Appeals may be filed any year on or before September 1, with the result effective beginning with the subsequent tax year. In addition, an appeal may be filed within 40 days of any assessment change notice issued by this office after a change has occurred to a property effectively changing its market value. All appeals must be heard and acted upon by October 31 of each year.
