Do you belong to an organization or are you an individual thinking about planning a litter cleanup, illegal dump cleanup, beautification and community greening project or environmental educational event? If yes, you may want to plan your event to happen between March 1st and May 31st. Events during this time frame can register to become part of the 2011 Great American Cleanup of PA (www.gacofpa.org). Registered events are eligible for free cleanup supplies and maybe even free disposal at a participating landfill.
I am hoping that the help provided through the 2011 Great American Cleanup of PA program may be what takes your project from an idea to an event. I would like to challenge organizations and individuals to plan an event or check the www.gacofpa.org web site and volunteer to help at an existing event.
For the last several years the Snyder County Solid Waste Management Authority has registered the Special Collection Event we hold every Spring. The free gloves, trash bags, safety vests and advertising help reduce the costs of holding the event. This year the tentative dates for the Special Collection Event are April 29 and April 30 in western Snyder County and May 6 and May 7 in eastern Snyder County. Start planning to recycle your electronics, televisions, scrap metals, large appliances, clothing and books. More details about the Authority’s event will be provided in upcoming articles.
