Overview

The three-member Board of Commissioners is the chief government body of the county. The board, with support from the chief county clerk, oversees and manages the various departments, services, and facilities of the county. Elected every four years, the commissioners are responsible for fiscal management, policy-making, and the administration of county affairs.

Right-to-Know

All requests must be submitted on a    Right-to-Know Law Request Form. All fees must be paid prior to the release of any requested records. Snyder County will advise you of the fees due.  The Snyder County Right To Know Officer is Chief Clerk Tony Phillips. He can be reached at 570-837-4208 or at tphillips@snydercounty.org.

Joe Kantz

Chairman
Joe Kantz is serving in his fourth term and has been the Chairman of the Board of Snyder County Commissioners since 2008 and is also the Business and Development Manager for the North Shore Railroad.  In his role with the railroad since 2014, Joe and his co-workers have been very involved in helping locate new industrial manufacturers to our region.    
 
Joe was raised in Snyder County and graduated from Selinsgrove High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Susquehanna University.  Joe has always been a strong advocate for our region and has served on numerous boards like the American Red Cross, Leadership Susquehanna Valley and Community Aid Thrift Stores.  Joe currently serves on the board for the Corner of Hope Pregnancy Care Center in Shamokin, PA.      
Joe is also very active with the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania and currently serves on the Board of Directors, as the Chair of the Resolutions Committee, on the Election Reform Committee and County Governance Committee.   Joe also serves on the Board of the Pennsylvania Counties Health Insurance Purchasing Cooperative.  In September of 2020, Joe was appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate to serve on the newly created Election Law Advisory Board.  Joe is also passionate about economic development in the Susquehanna Valley and serves on the Board of Directors for DRIVE, FOCUS Central PA and SEDA-COG.  
 
As a teenager, Joe earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.  In 1991-1992, Joe traveled the United States performing for our hospitalized veterans with the entertainment group Re-Creation.  Joe also performed in the music ministry of True Heart from 1993-2020. 
 
Joe also has a small marketing business, raises beef cattle and recently began auctioneering in Central PA.  He and his wife, Amber live with their daughter, Nia on a farm that has been in his family for nearly 100 years.  Their farm is just over the hill from the little town of Kantz which was named after Joe’s great, great, great, great Grandfather, Christian Kantz, II.

Vice Chairman

Commissioner Chuck Steininger serves as the Vice Chairman for Snyder County. He is a lifelong resident of the county who is active in supporting his community. Chuck currently serves as a fire chief for the Kratzerville Volunteer Fire Company and Emergency Management Coordinator for Jackson Township. For many years he also volunteered his time as an EMT. He also served on the Kratzerville Municipal, Selinsgrove Chamber of Commerce, and United Way boards.

Chuck is a longtime business and property owner in the area, and has made it a priority to give back to the community through fund raising efforts. He resides in Kratzerville with his wife Bobbi. They have two adult children.

Secretary

As Commissioner Adam serves as the Secretary of the Board. He is Vice President of the joinder board for CMSU and serves on the board of Children and Youth Services. He also serves as the co-chair of the joinder board for Community Action Agency. He prioritizes those services which support the oldest, youngest, and most vulnerable population of Snyder County.

A lifelong resident of Snyder County and proponent of service to others, Adam has served on several local boards and continues as EMS Chief for the Beaver Springs Fire Department serving Spring, Adams, and West Beaver Townships and McClure Borough, since 2009.

Prior to his election, Adam served in a variety of public and private roles; including 6 years as a Borough Councilman in McClure and 2 years as Mayor of the borough. He worked for DPW at Selinsgrove Center for 13 years and at Snyder County 911/Central Susquehanna Regional 911 Service for 9 years. He and his wife, Desiree, reside in McClure Borough. They are both active members of McClure First United Methodist Church.
