Overview

Former law enforcement officers who meet the requirements to be considered a qualified retired law enforcement officer pursuant to the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act may have the Snyder County Sheriff’s Office conduct a background check for a Qualification Card as required by the Retired Law Enforcement Identification Act. If you are a qualified retired law enforcement officer, you must appear in person in the Sheriff’s Office when requesting the background check. Qualification cards, when approved by the Sheriff’s Office, are valid for one year from their date of issue. Remember to bring valid photo identification when submitting your application. The address listed on your photo identification MUST match the address you listed on the Qualification Card. 

Examples of acceptable valid photo identification are a current (unexpired):

  • Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Pennsylvania Photo Identification card


You must also bring with you:

  • Your retired law enforcement identification card
  • A $5 money order made payable to the “Commonwealth of Pennsylvania”
 

NOTE: If you are an out-of-state resident, you may not obtain a valid Qualification Card in Pennsylvania.
