Roughly 50% of Snyder County residents own an on-lot wastewater treatment system (more commonly known as a septic system). Are you one of them?

Many people don’t know where their septic system is located, how the system works or how to maintain that system. When septic systems go bad, groundwater may become polluted.

A properly functioning septic system not only keeps pathogens and nutrients out of surface and groundwater supplies but spares homeowners from very expensive repairs or replacement costs.

Go to our Household Conservation web page to get a guide on how to properly maintain your on-lot septic system.

  Rain Barrels

In the past, the Conservation District has sold barrels for the public in which they can make into water conservation rain barrels.

Go to our  Household Conservation  web page for more information.

 Fun Downloads

The Lower Penns Creek Watershed Association (LPCWA), along with SCCD Watershed Specialist Jason Winey, created a kid's activity sheet for the Spring of 2010. Download this sheet by clicking here.

For more information about LPCWA, you can: 1.) Go to the association's website, 2.) Go to our Watershed Protection web page, or 3.) Contact Jason Winey at 570-837-3000, x112.

Note: If you cannot download any of these files, please contact the Conservation District.

 Other Notes

If your school or organization wishes to have the Conservation District speak about water quality, soil erosion prevention, etc., please contact the Conservation District at 570-837-3000, x110. We have given presentations to home school students, agriculture students in the Selinsgrove Area High School, boy scouts and Young Farmers and other civic groups in Snyder County.
